The Rapture can be used as another scare tactic. It certainly is over used in it's various usages. My favorite comparable arbitrary religious tool is: The "Saved by Grace" card. It can be most convenient to play this card at the most opportune time for any standard sinner that professes his or her belief in this.
I do find the Rapture metering, not unlike our own color codeing of Terrorist alerts, to be quite amusing. Proving once again, that all religions are created equal, equally farcical.
