The Chief's Next Dance

Chief Illiniwek danced again, unofficially, at Assembly Hall last Saturday. I was there, playing the part of a liberal, biased, commie media writer.

My liberal, biased, commie write up on it is available at Smile Politely: Dancing Privileges

Dan, I have changed my mind on this issue. I say retire the chief. It is time we stop remembering who lived here before us. Let's quit looking back, and look forward.

Good column, Dan. The chief may be retired, but racism lingers on.

Bob, the only way you can remember who lived here before is via mascots who dance at football games? The only information about the past that can stay lodged in your brain is racial stereotypes?

In that case, it is probably better to forget than to "remember."

Thanks pg. That's a disturbing article. I guess Bob is right about unity in this country. Racists especially will have none of it.

Yes, let's quit looking back. Jesus is way outdated, let's start there. No more ramblings from that balderdash bible.

Since I am of Irish heritage, I am personally outraged and emotionally gouged by the Notre Dame mascot. So I, here now, DEMAND that he be retired. Irish people aren't all male, red-bearded, short jerks. And I resent it.

Retire him with a whack of his own shalaleigh (sp?)!

It's a free country brownie. You can protest anything you want.

I say we give the Notre Dame mascot a blanket laced with small pox.

(brownie laughs uncontrollably at fing's comment, but wryly, and with a deep race guilt)
