Happy MLK Day

"Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane."

As usual, MLK was way ahead of the game and prophetic. Then again, it's not rocket science either. Just have to be willing to see it for what it is, common sense.

fingtree,

The curreent debate is not about equality of access to health care, it is about equality of access to health care insurance for the same cost regardless of risk.

How accessible is health care in the country without affordable insurance?

I don't know, Dan; how accessible is health care in the UK or Canada?

This half-in, half-out, half-assed approach to national health care is infuriating. Like clean water, breathable air and safe buildings, it should be considered a public good.

Health care is very accessible. Any life threatening issue is handled by hospitals. Any non-life threatening issue can be handled quickly by anyone who is willing to pay for it.

In the UK or Canada this is not true. Non-life threatening issues are not dealt with in a timely manner. It's sad, because you are actually working against the very goal you espouse. You keep confusing health care and health care insurance.

I wouldn't call health care accessible if your option is to get health care or go bankrupt, which are your choices in this country if you don't have health insurance and have a life-threatening problem.

Yes, wait times are longer but acceptable in Canada for non-life threatening problems. That seems like a fair trade for having everyone have access. And note that they only pay half as much as we do, so if we decided to pay for health care at the rate we do now, we'd have twice as much health care as they do, and the small wait times would go away entirely.

There is no debate, just an idle civil war of words and roadblocks between two sides of propaganda laden opinions. Regurgitated ballyhoo hoopla brainwashing disinformation, designed to mislead the masses to avoid thinking with COMMON SENSE stupid.
