Mini Review: Indiana Jones

I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on Memorial Day with my 9 year old son. It was a lot of fun, in a retro, campy sort of way.

My only complaint is that they didn’t age Indiana Jones enough to match Harrison Ford’s advancing years. I mean, come on, winning a fistfight with an Ivan Drago-like Russian meanie? That only makes sense if Jones had been able to use a cane or a walker to beat the other guy over the head with.

Karen Allen was a delight, back again as Marion Ravenwood. She and Ford lose none of their screen chemistry, and argue and bicker as if they'd been together for the last 20 years.

Overall, it was the 3rd best Indiana Jones Movie. The best, of course, is Raiders of the Lost Ark. My vote for second best is 2004’s National Treasure.

What??? You like National Treasure better than The Last Crusade???!!?

When the choice is between Sean Connery and Nick Cage, I gotta go with the crazy scot.

Yea, Last Crusade was pretty good. It may be better than the Crysal Skull. I'd have to see it again to be sure.

But I stand by my National Treasure choice. It was a very clever play on an Indiana Jones type movie, so gets points for being more original than Last Crusade.

Too bad National Treasure 2 sucked. Maybe even worse than Temple of Doom.

What a hoot, I so completely agree with your rating including National Treasure. Haven't seen this new Indy yet, but I may just get to the cinema yet because I love the character of Marion and I'm thrilled to have her back.

Good grief, i am 4 years younger than Ford and if I could do TWO of the stunts he did in this movie I'd be thrilled, and I'm in fair shape(well, at least I'm not blimpy fat). So lighten up on the age crap-Ford is just aging exceptionally well.

Hey, I've got nothing against Harrison Ford - he *is* aging nicely. But that's the point - instead of gracefully aging his character, they keep him doing stuff that only people in their 30s would reasonably be able to do. I don't see that as a sign of respect for aging.

I think it's my own advancing years that make me cranky about this. If no one my age could do that stuff, I certainly don't want someone in their 60s doing it. It makes me look bad.
