Joe the Self-Defeater

My regular Smile Politely column is ready: Joe vs. The Socialists.

It's about how I don't understand why Joe the Plumber is so outraged on behalf of the top 5% of wage earners. After all, he is just making it harder on himself now, in the hopes that he will get to be 3% greedier if he ever gets to that top 5%.

Very nice article Dan. Sarah Palin used; "Joe six pack" in the Vice Presidential debate first. I found that interesting having "Joe" Biden debating her. I guess he's not your average Joe.
You sum up the whole article with this quote;
"It only makes sense from an ideological standpoint, where words like “socialism” are taught to be feared, despite not really knowing what they mean".
Far to many in this country are easily tricked or exploitable.
Be a skeptic and question everything and for Buddha's sake, have a sense of humor about it all.

Yea, raising marginal rates maybe isn't such a bad idea after all. Hoover did it in 1931, when he raised rates from 25% to 63%, and made those mean greedy rich people pay their fair share. It worked out ok then, didn't it?

Robert,

You said, "...mean greedy rich people..."

I say: "Alright! Right on! Bravo!"

It's really nice to know you've seen the light.

3% = 37% ?

Bob, it sounds like you want to vote against Herbert Hoover, not Barack Obama.

Dan,

It's true, a little depression wouldn't be nearly as bad as a great depression. Good point.
